The Class of 2011

We are the 2011 graduating year from BA (Hons) Animation at University of Wales, Newport. There are around 36 of us in total and we are all very different, but united by our training here, as part of Newport Film School. This blog stands to showcase and promote our graduation films and the work of Animation Newport 2011.

The Course

The BA (Hons) Animation programme at Newport has been in existence for over 30 years, and during this time has built up a strong reputation for producing talent and innovation. The programme has gone from strength to strength and has provided the industry with ground-breaking film makers. The course now also benefits from being located in University of Wales, Newport’s brand new City Centre Campus.

The course provides a well-balanced education which combines a strong foundation in animation practice with an in-depth history and theory programme, allowing students to develop a critical awareness of both their own and other people’s films. Projects involve exploring sound in film, scriptwriting, and non-narrative film texts, which results in work that is diverse, intelligent and sophisticated. Animation industry members also perform an important role through studio visits, tutor masterclasses and visiting lecturers.

The programme is one of the 6 UK Skillset accredited programmes, and also benefits from being part of the Skillset Media Academy Wales, which is one of 9 UK government-backed Centres of Media Training.
